SECTORS

 

SECONDARY SECTOR

The secondary sector jobs has jobs which transform raw material into elaborated products. Uses materials that the primary sector has produced and converts them into finished products. This process is called manufacturing. Most manufacturing is done in factories.

The main activities that make up this sector are:

 

Factories or industries – can produce elaborated products with machinery. They are usually large building where lot of people works a large quantity of products are produced.

 

The industry can be classified into:

-      Base Industries: transform raw materials into semi-elaborated products. For example, they produce wooden boards from trees.

 

-      Usage Industries: transform semi-elaborated products into products which are directly sold to people. For example: the chairs which are made with wooden boards from trees.

 

 

-      Equipment Industries: produce machinery or technology uses for other industries. For example, saws, hammers, nails to be able to build chairs.

 

Industries can also be classified according to raw materials they use and the products they make:

 

-      Chemical Industries – plastic.

-      Food Industries – nutritional products.

-      Automobile Industries – cars.


The industry can also be classified into:

-      Heavy Industries: need big machines to produce big products. For example. Petrochemical, metal, and shipbuilding industries.

 

-      Light Industries: need smaller machinery. For example: textiles, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, electronics, and food.

 

-      Energy Industries: turn gas, oil, water, wind, sun…

 

 

Crafts – consists of create the work in small workshops and develop the products with the own hands and very simple machines. Use traditional techniques. Crafts products are hand-made.

The craftsman is the person who does this job.

Examples:

-      Sculpture.

-      Craftsmen making handbags.

 

 

Constructions – is in charge of completing whole buildings and engineering works:

-      Bridges.

-      Tunnels.

-      Roads.

 

 

Problems in the secondary sector:

 

-      There are lot of factories which are gravely contaminating our air, flow, and water.

 

-      They look for their own economic profit without thinking of the damage they produce to all surrounds.

 

 

What can we do?

 

It´s fundamental that everyone who works in secondary sector:

 

-      To take care of our planet.

-      Don´t stomp residue into nature.

-      Use clean and removable energies.
